Volume Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT)
VMAT is an improvisation of the IMRT technique where the dose is delivered in an arc (0–360 degrees) pattern.
- This increase in the degree of freedom helps to increase dose conformity.
- VMAT helps to deliver radiation at higher dose rates, thereby reducing overall treatment time to less than 5 minutes (compared with IMRT treatment, which takes approximately 20 to 30 min).
- Complex plans, which are difficult to plan in IMRT, can be done with the VMAT technique.
