Radiology

Radiology is a discipline of medicine concerned with the use of radiant energy in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders. This subject is separated into two major categories: diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology. A radiologist is a physician who specializes in radiography

Diagnostic Radiology or Imaging

Diagnostic Radiology is a collection of medical imaging methods that use X-rays. Information Regarding Radiology Facility Regulations: The use of x-rays in medicine for diagnosis and treatment has shown to be extremely useful to society as a whole. It is critical to be able to see cancer inside a patient’s body in order to make an appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan. The MGCH & RI Division of Diagnostic Imaging includes over a dozen technologies that radiologists may use to view tumors in both bone and soft tissue. From traditional radiology to sophisticated procedures that allow our radiologists to see the smallest blood vessels, our radiologists take diagnosis, tumor staging, and treatment planning to a whole new level. Our expert radiologists provide diagnostic services at the cutting edge of diagnostic imaging breakthroughs.

Interventional Radiology

Interventional Radiology is a sub-specialty of Diagnostic Radiology that has evolved over the past 25 years to become an integral part of comprehensive patient care, providing alternatives to surgery for a broad range of health problems. State-of-the-art imaging techniques, including ultrasound and computed tomography (CT) scans, are utilized to guide the placement of needles, catheters, and devices directly to target sites deep within the body through a small skin incision. These procedures are often performed under local anesthesia with intravenous (IV) sedation and typically do not require general anesthesia.
